October Golf Report

My unprecedented winning streak is over. Undefeated since April, I played this month at TAT Filipinas GC (below) in what we can call a no-decision and made a stirring come from behind victory at Thailand’s Muang Kaew GC later that week. In the classic Muang Kaew match I was two down after nine holes but I rallied to win the match with a birdie on the 18th, my third of the back nine.

So it was with some confidence that I went to Hong Kong for my last round of the month. And I was five up after six holes, thinking that I would remain undefeated in 2009. The details of the final twelve holes are too painful to recount here. The match was lost by the 17th green. I made the slow, threnodial walk up the 18th fairway, wondering how such a defeat could have happened to me.

Fortunately, I recovered quickly and put the loss behind me. It helped to be upgraded to first class on the flight back to Bangkok where I enjoyed a good sleep and some lamb chops, ample vegetables, and a fine claret.
