Dazed and confused

The new flavors have been coming so quickly that I just can’t keep up. There was the cheese pizza flavor—I called it the gateway chip—and I’ve been think about it ever since. Is it a flavor for people who like potato chips but don’t like pizza? Or a flavor for people who are squeamish about potato chips but are really into cheese pizza? I didn’t understand that one. I guess it was just too simple for my taste.

And then, a few days later, something really complicated happened.

The seafood cheese pizza flavor not only is a collaboration between Lays x Pizza Hut, but also Lays x 7-11, and the cheese, or the seafood, or the inspiration, is from Hokkaido.

That was the seafood cheese pizza flavor, with a lot of complexity. And with pineapple. And ham. This flavor was actually pretty good. I bought a few bags of it in October and November. The Hokkaido connection was intriguing. You’ll see the map of Hokkaido on the bottom left of the package. I think it was the cheese. I don’t know.

Going from the Chef’s Signature series early in 2020, to what was to be a 25 year anniversary flavor retrospective, then to have the KFC flavor that left me blindsided, and then cheese pizza? Then seafood cheese pizza? It was almost too much to take in.
