During a 31 km trail race in Thailand involving jungle, stream crossings, and rubber orchards, the author took a hard tumble down a rocky slope that left him with scrapes, a puncture wound near his shoulder, and cuts on his hand and wrist — injuries he only fully discovered hours later when treating them with Betadine. Despite the fall, he finished the race in around four hours and fourteen minutes, and notes with pride that his moustache emerged completely unscathed.
