I might have titled this A Month of Eating Dangerously or something similarly vague, but I find the specifics just draw one in, don’t they? At England in July the most dangerous thing I ate was clotted cream.

I report here on last week’s tour through Japan and its flavors and fashions. You may already be aware of Blueberry & Hazelnut Pringles. Why stop there, though, when you could work your way through an assortment of flavors including a daring Lemon & Sesame combination or the ever-popular soft-shell crab?

I woke up this morning and ran from Palm Desert to Indian Wells. After that invigorating run through the desert, I drove west, reaching the sea at Carpinteria. Part of my quadracious training program involves vigorous exercise.

the breakfast of champions, or perhaps we could just call this rocket fuel. My quadracious training program for the Hood to Coast relay race takes a lot out of me, and that’s why I start my days with rum raisin milk.

A few days ago I mentioned my discovery of miang kham and its multifarious flavors. I’ve had miang kham again tonight, and can take you through the dinner and its aftermath in complete, I may even say quadracious, detail.

I’ve had some excellent food this week. I was at Hua Hin for a seafood meal and enjoyed my first Beerlao outside of Laos. The Beerlao Dark Lager is my favorite beer in Southeast Asia, ranking just ahead of San Miguel Corporation’s Cerveza Negra.

I saw this new flavor of Royce’ nama chocolate a few weeks ago and tried it for the first time today. I jotted down a few tasting notes: Chocolate-forward A gorgeous banana bouquet Approachable saccharinity Sophisticated Puddingy Attractive packaging too.

After the turfgrass science seminar at Shinjuku I went to Hokkaido for a few days of post-seminar exercise and relaxation. Two Hokkaido institutions, the Sapporo Brewery and the Rocye chocolate company have joined forces to make a chocolate bitter brew.

Today’s turfgrass science seminar was at the Shinjuku Maynds Tower, just a block away from Shinjuku station. With an average of more than three million passengers a day, Shinjuku is the world’s busiest train station.

  Were it not for my noted reserve in pecuniary matters, I would have filled my bags with this canned Minke whale curry. Equally surprising is the jingusikan curry at right.
