For the past month, I’ve been making an intense study of the grasses in a rather narrow latitude, from 44 to 49°N. There are many grasses at sea level, but I find some really interesting specimens at a higher elevation.

I’ve been working on this for a while, and finished it earlier this month at a nice hotel in Skala. Minimum soil nutrient guidelines for turfgrass developed from Mehlich 3 soil test results

Or more precisely, it starts with the foot of a goose. These have lots of collagen, I’ve heard, and are good for the skin. {.asset-media-link} It wasn’t all savoury. There were also sweets.

{.asset-media-link} I’ve found the birdie dance photos and the botanizing posts to be a bit blasé, so although there have still been a lot of both, I have not felt any need to document those exploits here.

{.asset-media-link} I flew a few times in April, and finally reached 106 flight miles on United. It would have happened sooner if they hadn’t stopped flying to Bangkok, but so it goes.

Without any golf reports to report, or unsolicited advice to dispense, this will instead be a miscellany. {.asset-media-link} Where to begin? Perhaps sunrise, day, and night views of Niagara Falls would be good.

To explain the recent lacuna here: I’ve been writing a lot, and studying a lot, and as I was rearranging some documents today various passport photos fell out, and visa application documents dropped to the floor, and I remembered that I’ve been especially busy with consular matters.

{.asset-media-link} I refer, of course, to a week of farewell parties – soubetsukai (送別会). It is rather late in the year for a shinnenkai, and much too early for a bonnenkai, but it was a fine time for soubetsukai in Ishigaki, Fukuoka, and Tokyo.
